Infographic: The Rise of Free Online Education

“60% of graduates carry an amount of debt that is equal to 60% of their annual income”

We all know the cost of traditional learning has become ridiculous but its quotes like that which put this terrible situation in perspective. Doubly so when you realize this Infographic was published in 2014!

It’s also a fantastic source of real MOOC student data. The “Massive” in Massive Online Learning Course has not come to pass. The median number of students per MOOC in 2014 was only 33000, with 75% of students only signing up because it was free. We know the median numbers as we end 2016 are higher but still nowhere near close enough to really justify the word ‘massive’.

From costs to alternatives, trends and resources, this ‘Rise Of Free Online Education Infographic’ is more relevant now than it was back in 2014. It reaffirms why MOOC’s are so important to a nations of students crippled in debt and returns our focus rightly back onto making MOOC’s and other free online courses accredited, worthwhile, accessible and most importantly: Useful.
